Flabbergasted by a wave plank

It was the first event for Ulke after her rupture of a muscle fibre she had incurred at Salzburg, but it worked really well: one clear round, one round with one fault. I’m very satisfied with her. I had taken her and some young horses to Hardenberg. They all had either a clear round or only one fault. It was roughly the same with Gert-Jan at Amsterdam: second with Andrea, but unfortunately not in the grand prix but one competition before. A pity, really. I’d say it is all a bit so-so at the moment.

And yesterday, we took our very young horses to Bathmen to an introductory event. For one six-year-old mare, Vidette, it was the first time ever. She had first given birth to a foal before she started to get trained, at the age of five. When she saw the wave plank, she was utterly flabbergasted and first passed it by. Totally understandable, I think. The second time, she was clear right away. That is the good thing about the Netherlands: International obstacles are used on the courses right from the start. – “Tis early practice only makes the master”.

Next week, Austria is on the agenda: Villach, Treffen. Gert-Jan is going in any case, I’m still on the waiting list. Wait and see
